Loriinae 101: An Introduction to Lories and Lorikeets
This 50 minute presentation introduces the family of parrots known as lories and lorikeets. It includes basic taxonomy, diet, housing and breeding information, complete with pictures of most of the 50+ species of lories and lorikeets.
Pest Control for the Aviary
This 1 hour presentation is geared mostly to breeders with outdoor aviaries although many of the suggestions can easily be used by breeders with indoor collections and pet owners. It introduces the concept of Integrated Pest Management and its application to the aviary. It includes suggestions for dealing with many common pests associated with aviculture.
Environmental Enrichment in the Management of Captive Psittacines
This 45 minute presentation introduces the concept of Environmental Enrichment to the parrot keeper. It is geared mostly to pet owners, but many of the suggestions can be utilized by breeders. It breaks the sometimes complex concept of Environmental Enrichment into simple ideas and includes many pictures of examples.
Aviculture of Softbill Species
This 35 minute presentation introduces the diverse group of birds known as softbills. It includes basic taxonomy and diet information with many pictures for examples. In addition, it goes into more detail about some of the more commonly seen softbills, such as Ramphastids, Starlings and Turacos. This presentation was originally created for the Association of Avian Veterinarians and may not hold the interest of club members that are more parrot or pet bird oriented.
Rainbow Lorikeets in American Aviculture
This 50 minute presentation introduces the group of parrots known as "Rainbow Lorikeets". It includes diet, housing and breeding information complete with pictures of the "Rainbow" subspecies available in the United States. This presentation is very similar to Loriinae 101 but focuses more specifically on the Rainbow Lorikeets.
Vini Lories and Breeding the Blue-crowned Lory
This 35 minute presentation introduces the species of lories belonging the genus Vini. It includes a brief description, including pictures, of each of the species and goes into more detail on the only available species of Vini lory, the Blue-crowned Lory, in the United States. It includes diet, housing and breeding information from several zoos and private breeders working with this species.
